The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic and CertiK have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening expertise in blockchain security and digital assets.
The agreement was signed on 9 September 2026 during a meeting at the National Bank in Bishkek between National Bank Board member Sanjar Abdygaziev and representatives of CertiK, an international company specialising in blockchain and digital-asset security. The National Bank published the announcement on 10 September 2026.
According to the National Bank, CertiK has extensive experience working with financial institutions, government bodies and regulators in different countries. The cooperation is focused on areas related to the security of blockchain technologies and digital assets.
The agreement comes as Kyrgyzstan is developing its regulatory framework for virtual assets and looking to strengthen the expertise of its financial institutions.
Digital asset security becomes a regulatory priority
The cooperation is particularly relevant because security and compliance are becoming increasingly important as digital assets move closer to the regulated financial sector.
On the same day, the National Bank also hosted a workshop for representatives of commercial banks titled “Digital Assets: Security, Compliance and Supervision.” CertiK representatives participated in the event, sharing international experience in blockchain security and digital-asset regulation.
The workshop was intended to improve the practical capabilities of participants in areas including digital-asset security, compliance and regulatory supervision.
For Kyrgyzstan, cooperation with an international blockchain-security specialist could provide additional expertise as banks and financial institutions prepare for a market in which digital assets are becoming increasingly integrated with traditional financial infrastructure.
The National Bank has already been working on strengthening its regulatory framework for virtual-asset activities. In August, it published amendments designed to improve anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing controls for operations involving virtual assets, in line with international FATF standards.
A broader Central Asian trend
The development also fits into a wider trend across Central Asia. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have recently been advancing regulated digital-asset and blockchain initiatives, while Kyrgyzstan is focusing on the regulatory, compliance and security infrastructure needed for the sector.
Rather than launching another cryptocurrency, Kyrgyzstan is therefore focusing on a different part of the digital-asset ecosystem: making blockchain-based financial infrastructure safer and easier for regulated institutions to supervise.
If the cooperation leads to stronger security and compliance standards for banks and digital-asset businesses, it could become an important step in Kyrgyzstan’s development as a regulated digital-finance market.
