Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited (BOCHK) and Ant International have announced a strategic partnership aimed at deepening cross-border payment connectivity and rolling out AI-driven treasury solutions for corporates, SMEs, and retail users across Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.
The agreement, unveiled on August 20, 2026, builds on a relationship between the two companies that dates back to 2013. It brings together BOCHK’s banking infrastructure and foreign exchange capabilities with Ant International’s payments and fintech stack, which spans Alipay+, AlipayHK, the global account platform WorldFirst, and the embedded finance business Bettr.
What the Partnership Covers
The collaboration is structured around three main pillars.
Cross-border retail payments. BOCHK will provide supporting accounts and settlement banking services for Alipay+, the unified wallet gateway that connects more than 50 mobile payment partners and serves over 2 billion user accounts globally. The two companies also plan to deepen the integration between AlipayHK and BOCHK for peer-to-peer transfers, alongside joint consumer marketing campaigns in Hong Kong.
Corporate liquidity management. BOCHK and Ant International intend to develop blockchain-based solutions that draw on distributed ledger technology and tokenization. A key piece of this pillar is an AI-powered treasury offering that combines BOCHK’s foreign exchange expertise with Ant International’s technology stack, aimed at helping corporate treasurers manage liquidity and FX exposure across markets in real time.
SME cross-border support. Through WorldFirst, which covers more than 220 countries and regions, the partnership will offer Chinese enterprises expanding abroad an integrated package covering multi-currency collection, AI-powered foreign exchange, treasury management, and compliance support.
What the Executives Said
Sun Yu, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of BOCHK, said the bank is “committed to promoting cross-border financial connectivity, with deep expertise in areas such as cross-border payments, treasury management, and fintech.”
Eric Jing, Chairman of Ant International, called BOCHK “a trusted collaborator since 2013,” adding that the company is “proud to forge a strategic partnership” with the bank.
Neither company disclosed specific financial terms, investment figures, or a timeline for rolling out the individual product integrations.
Why It Matters
The tie-up lands as banks and fintechs across Asia race to mode_rnize cross-border payment rails and treasury infrastructure with AI and blockchain-based tooling. For BOCHK, the partnership extends its reach into Ant International’s large wallet and merchant network. For Ant International, it adds a settlement and FX partner with deep roots in Hong Kong and mainland China, reinforcing the infrastructure behind Alipay+, AlipayHK, WorldFirst, and Bettr as it continues to expand its corporate and SME-facing services across Southeast Asia.
