Swiss tokenization infrastructure company OnchainLabs has become one of the first international firms to establish a presence in Kyrgyzstan’s newly launched Tamchy Special Financial Investment Territory (SFIT), signaling a new chapter in cross-border collaboration between Switzerland’s mature fintech ecosystem and Central Asia’s emerging digital asset market.
The announcement was made during the official opening ceremony of Tamchy SFIT on 3 July 2026, held on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov personally presented certificates to the first five international companies reserving residency in the new financial free zone, with OnchainLabs among the inaugural group.
Created under Kyrgyz Republic Law No. 136 of July 2025, Tamchy SFIT spans approximately 6,000 hectares and operates under English common law, featuring its own independent financial regulator and dispute resolution centre. The jurisdiction also offers an attractive tax regime, including zero percent tax on profits, dividends, and capital gains for 49 years, positioning itself as a gateway for fintech, digital assets, and international financial services connecting the Eurasian Economic Union, China, and the Middle East.
Bringing Swiss Tokenization Expertise to Central Asia
OnchainLabs’ focus in Tamchy SFIT is centered on tokenization—the process of representing real-world assets, including commodities such as gold, real estate, and other financial instruments, as blockchain-based digital assets.
Switzerland has long been regarded as one of the world’s leading jurisdictions for tokenization. Since the introduction of its Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) Act in 2021, the country has established one of the most comprehensive legal frameworks for digital securities, providing regulatory clarity around tokenized assets and legally recognizing ledger-based securities.
Leveraging this experience, OnchainLabs works alongside Swiss legal and industry specialists to develop compliant tokenization infrastructure.
“Being named among the first residents of Tamchy SFIT is a meaningful moment for OnchainLabs,” said Florian Ehrbar, CEO of OnchainLabs. “Kyrgyzstan is building a jurisdiction with real ambition, and we see a natural fit between the legal certainty Switzerland has built around tokenization and the infrastructure Tamchy SFIT is putting in place. We’re looking forward to exploring how that experience can be useful here.”
Why This Matters
The significance of this move extends well beyond one company’s expansion.
As jurisdictions around the world compete to become hubs for digital assets, successful ecosystems increasingly depend on institutional knowledge, legal certainty, and international collaboration rather than simply offering favorable tax policies.
Switzerland has spent years building one of the world’s most respected regulatory environments for blockchain finance. By bringing Swiss expertise into Kyrgyzstan’s emerging financial free zone, OnchainLabs aims to help bridge established European best practices with a rapidly developing market positioned between Europe and Asia.
If successful, this knowledge exchange could accelerate the development of tokenization standards within Tamchy SFIT, making it easier for international investors, fintech companies, and financial institutions to issue and manage compliant digital assets across borders.
The initiative also reflects a broader trend in digital finance: rather than operating in isolation, emerging financial centres are increasingly seeking partnerships with mature blockchain jurisdictions to build trusted infrastructure from the outset.
Knowledge Exchange Under Discussion
OnchainLabs has proposed a structured knowledge-exchange program to the Tamchy SFIT Management Council. The initiative would connect Swiss legal, regulatory, investment, and tokenization experts with institutions and resident companies operating within the new financial free zone.
While discussions regarding the scope and timeline remain ongoing, the objective is to facilitate practical collaboration that supports the responsible development of tokenized financial markets in Kyrgyzstan.
Building an International Digital Asset Hub
Speaking during the opening ceremony, Ali Ijaz Ahmad, First Deputy Chairman of the Tamchy SFIT Management Council, emphasized the territory’s international ambitions.
“Great financial centres are built by understanding what international capital and businesses require. Tamchy SFIT offers exactly that—a trusted, flexible, and investor-ready platform for businesses seeking sustainable growth.”
As tokenization continues to gain momentum globally, partnerships like this may become increasingly important in connecting established blockchain innovation hubs with emerging financial jurisdictions. For Kyrgyzstan, attracting experienced international firms such as OnchainLabs represents an early step toward building credibility in the rapidly evolving digital asset economy. Meanwhile, for Switzerland, it demonstrates how its regulatory leadership in tokenization is beginning to influence blockchain development well beyond its borders.
